(BRANSON, MO, February 27, 2026) Beginning March 2 and continuing throughout the year, the City of Branson Utilities Department will move forward with the next phase of a federally mandated initiative to identify the materials used in customer-owned water service lines.
This effort is part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Revised Lead and Cooper Rule and is designed to help ensure safe and reliable drinking water for residents and businesses.
Federal regulations require water systems to document the material of both the public and customer-owned portions of all water service lines. Properties constructed prior to January 1, 1989, require particular attention, as plumbing materials used before that time were more likely to include lead components. While the City of Branson maintains records for many locations, some properties still have service line materials that have not yet been identified.
To collect the remaining information, City staff will conduct door-to-door outreach throughout the community. Utilities Department team members will knock on doors and leave informational door hangers for residents and businesses. The door hanger will include a brief form for property owners or occupants to complete.
Residents who receive a door hanger are asked to fill out the requested information and place it back on their door. City staff will return to collect the completed form. Community participation will help the City meet federal requirements and may prevent the need for more invasive identification methods.
In cases where service line materials cannot be confirmed through the information provided, additional investigation may be necessary. Property owners will be notified in advance if further steps are required.
The City of Branson appreciates the community’s cooperation as it continues working to comply with federal requirements and provide safe drinking water. For more information, please contact the City of Branson Utilities Department at 417-243-2731.
