Branson Activated City Outdoor Warning Sirens for Wed Storm

BransonLogo_City Of

Strong thunderstorms passed through Branson early Wednesday afternoon.  The City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was opened for emergency personnel to monitor storm development as the system approached the area.

The National Weather Service notified EOC staff before the storm of the potential for hail, strong winds at 60 mph or greater, heavy rainfall and dangerous lightning.  Branson emergency officials used that information to make the decision to activate the City’s Outdoor Warning Sirens. These sirens are used to notify people who are outdoors at area attractions, golf courses, water parks and shopping malls to seek shelter indoors and to seek information.

Strong winds and hail from quarter size to 1.5” in size was reported around the area. Hail accumulated in the Pointe Royale area along 165 Highway. There was hail damage noted in Country Bluff on Fall Creek Road. In Branson, several reports of tree damage were reported including near City Hall, Branson Hills Parkway, Falls Parkway and Pointe Royale.  A large tree (estimated at 36” diameter) fell across a house in Pointe Royale – no injuries reported.  Traffic signal lights were also out at 76 and Gretna Road due to a power failure.

We remind area residents to remain “Weather Aware” by having a NOAA Weather Radio in their home or business, to listen to live broadcast meteorologist, and smartphone apps.
