Branson Police Officers responded to the Stratford House Inn, located in the 3500 block of W 76 Country Blvd on a report of a stabbing victim around 8 a.m. on April 13, 2019. When they arrived, officers learned an adult male had been held in a room against his will overnight, during which he was repeatedly assaulted.
Seeing an opportunity to escape, the victim was able to obtain a knife and cut one of the assailants, fleeing the room in the process. As officers were responding to the reports of the stabbing, the victim flagged down a passing motorist who also called the police.
Police believe there were three suspects involved in the kidnapping and assault. Two are in custody and police are looking for the third. Gary Murphy (31), of Branson, is in custody at a hospital in Springfield. A warrant has been issued for him for kidnapping and assault, with a $100,000 bond. Once Murphy is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Taney County Jail. Khristian Garbrecht (27), of Branson, is currently being held at the Taney County Jail, on a warrant for kidnapping, with a $75,000 bond.
The victim was treated and released from a local hospital.
Police do not believe there is a threat to the general public as this was an isolated incident among acquaintances. The investigation into this case continues.
