New Branson Mayor, Edd Akers, and Aldermen Take Office

New Branson Mayor, Edd Akers, and new incoming Aldermen, Larry Milton were sworn into office along with incumbent Aldermen Bob Simmons, Kevin McConnell, and Brian Clonts at City Hall on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at the regularly scheduled Board of Aldermen meeting.

Mayor Akers was born in the living quarters of a general store between Lakeview and Kimberling City, Missouri. He attended Branson R-4 Schools from first grade through high school. He began his working career at Marvel Cave Park in 1957, was the assistant to Peter Herschend at Silver Dollar City in 1965, and the Co-Administrator of the National Crafts Foundation with Mary Herschend from 1966-1969.

While Akers is currently retired, he was President of Akers, Arney Insurance Agency from 1970 to 1993 and an Associate with Ollis Akers Arney Insurance from 2015 until March 2019. He earned both his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and his Master’s Degree in Accountancy from the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Edd has held many leadership and service roles in the community, including President of the Branson R-4 School District, Chairman of Skaggs Community Hospital, Branson, President of the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, Chairman for the Taney County Board of Adjustment, and President of Community of Recovery Experience (CORE).

Edd and his wife Karen have three children and six grandchildren who all live in the Branson area.

New Ward 2 Alderman, Larry Milton replaces Cris Bohinc who did not run for re-election.  Larry Milton has been a Branson resident and Branson business owner for 25 years. He has been a commercial real estate broker since 1981 and is currently, the owner and broker of Branson Hills Realty. Larry also owns and operates several businesses including the Main Street Marina and the Main Street Lake Cruises.
