Residents Invited to Celebrate Recycle Center Milestone

Recycle Milestone Celebration

The Branson Recycle Center has now recycled 5 million glass bottles in five years, and to celebrate this big milestone, is inviting residents to a celebration at their facility on Compton Drive, Tuesday, September 25 from 9:00 am to noon. Recycle partner, Ripple Glass will be there, providing mini-cupcakes. Free recycling bins will also be handed out, courtesy of sponsors, in a random drawing.

Since Branson pioneered glass recycling in the Ozarks during 2013, over 50 semi-truck loads of glass have been shipped out. If those bottles were laid end to end, they would extend 596 miles. That’s the distance from Branson to New Orleans.

“Our citizens and visitors requested this service and have clearly embraced glass recycling since it became available. I am glad our City and our community has embraced something that is vital to making sure Branson has a healthy and clean environment for generations to come,” said Branson City Administrator Stan Dobbins.

Partnerships have been critical to the growth and success of the program. One such partnership is Taney County. They provide storage and loading for collected glass. The results speak for themselves. In 2013, there were just two drop-off points available for residents. Now there are ten, including Tantone Industries, Kimberling City, Hurley, Stone County and Cape Fair.

“We are so impressed by the community’s efforts to recycle glass. Recycling glass saves energy and extends the life of local landfills,” said Ripple Glass Regional Program Manager, Lauren Henry. “Recycling one bottle can save enough energy to power a compact fluorescent light bulb for seven hours,” Henry continued.
