Four Million Glass Bottles Recycled in Branson: Thanks a Billion, Branson
Branson Recycle Center to celebrate by rewarding “Random Recyclers” August 14-19, 2017
BRANSON, Mo (August 8, 2017) – Branson area citizens and visitors have now recycled more than 4 million glass bottles since the initiative began. If placed end to end, the bottles would stretch from Branson to Chicago. Branson Recycle Center will celebrate this milestone by rewarding “Random Recyclers” during the week of August 14-19, 2017.
Local sponsors have donated prizes for random glass recyclers each day at both the Branson Recycle Center and the satellite recycle trailer located at the Branson United Methodist Church on West Highway 76 in Branson. Prizes include: handmade wind chimes made from recycled glass, tickets to area attractions including Silver Dollar City, Track Family Fun Parks and the Butterfly Palace, as well as recycling bags, sunglasses and t-shirts.
Through a partnership between the City of Branson, Taney County and Ripple Glass of Kansas, City, the glass recycling initiative began in Branson in 2014. Today, Branson is part of an eight-state Ripple Glass Midwest network, which has collectively over 1 billion glass bottles since 2009. Recycling one bottle saves enough energy to light a compact fluorescent lightbulb for 7 hours, but recycling one billion bottles saves enough electricity to power every house in Kansas City for more than 18 days. The Ripple Glass “Thanks a Billion” campaign includes the glass recycling efforts of ten locations throughout Stone and Taney counties.
Branson was named “Glass Recycler of the Year” in 2015 by Ripple Glass, and glass recycling continues to grow with tonnage nearly doubling during tourism season.
Some of the largest recyclers of glass throughout the Branson area include Hilton Hotel, Branson Convention Center, Big Cedar Lodge, The Old English Inn, Copper Run Distillery, and Skoglund Properties.
