Week 5 Update: April 28-May 4

Despite record rainfall in April, work on Phase 4 of the Downtown Streetscape Project is right on schedule—thanks to our dedicated contractors and the City's approval for extended work hours to help navigate weather delays.

Phase 1 of the project is progressing well, with several key components already completed. Crews have successfully installed a new water line and fire hydrant, placed new stormwater boxes, and finished underground electrical work. Most importantly, businesses on both sides of the street remain open and accessible throughout construction.

Week 4 Update: April 21-27

Despite recent rains, the project remains on schedule as crews continue pushing forward. This week, work will focus on finishing underground tie-ins for stormwater and conduit systems, along with testing and sanitizing the newly installed water lines. Preparations for curb and gutter installation are underway on the south side of the street, and crews are also beginning formwork and steel prep for future street lighting.

Week 3 Update: April 14-20

Downtown remains Open for Business! Work is moving full speed ahead in Downtown Branson. Crews continue to make steady progress as we upgrade vital infrastructure along Main Street. The City has installed two additional CMS boards as well as adjusted detour signs to ensure smooth travel and to inform visitors that downtown business are open.

Next week, underground electrical work will begin on both sides of the street to support future installation of street lighting. Crews will also begin installing critical piping and making connections for new streetlight vaults. Stormwater improvements will continue on the north side of Main Street, including additional box installations, piping, and concrete collars. We will continue to monitor the traffic flow and make the adjustments needed as traffic flows and overall project progress dictates. City of Branson Public Works/Engineering staff are overseeing this project with the lead of Emery Sapp and Sons Associates.

Reminder: All downtown parking remains unaffected aside from 1 block of Main Street.

Week 2 Update: April 7-13

Crews have officially removed the existing roadway, streetlights, curbs, and gutters—clearing way for the next phase of construction.

In the coming week, crews will begin installing stormwater boxes and underground piping as part of early infrastructure work. Hydrovac crews will also be on site to start initial utility and sewer preparations. Toward the end of the week, roadbed preparations will begin in the active construction zone.

Week 1 Update: April 1-6

Starting Monday, April 7, 2025, Main Street between Veterans Blvd and Commercial Street will be closed to vehicular traffic for Phase 4 of the Downtown Streetscape Project.

  • Sidewalks will remain open for pedestrians
  • Please follow the detour route in the map to navigate around the closure.
  • Downtown businesses are open. You can access them using other side streets like Atlantic and Pacific, which will remain open during construction.

Project Background & History

The Downtown Streetscape Project is the result of more than a decade of visioning, planning, and collaboration aimed at preserving the heart of Branson while modernizing its infrastructure and public spaces. Originally developed in 2015 as part of the Historic Downtown Branson Master Plan, the project was shaped by extensive community involvement, city leadership, downtown business input, and expert consultants—reflecting a shared commitment to celebrate the unique identity of Branson’s downtown while fostering a brighter and more prosperous future.

The Master Plan called for revitalized streets, enhanced accessibility, new lighting and landscaping, safer pedestrian experiences, improved signage, and more efficient infrastructure. It emphasized the importance of:

  • Supporting Branson's residents and millions of annual visitors
  • Embracing the City's deep-rooted heritage

Master Plan Phasing

While the Master Plan was finalized in 2015, turning vision into action takes more than a blueprint—it requires resources, alignment, and the right timing.

Recognizing the importance of completing this long-awaited project after nearly 8 years of delay, in 2024 the Board of Aldermen made the completion of the Downtown Streetscape project a top priority. This renewed focus ensured the necessary resources, scheduling, and support were in place to move this project forward. The updated Phase 4 project timeline can be referenced on this page.

Extensive community input played a vital role from the beginning. During the planning and design process—completed in less than a year—the City of Branson hosted several public hearings to gather input from residents and business owners to maximize the project and minimize project disruptions. Great River Engineers and City staff also met with every business along Phase 4 to listen to concerns, collect feedback, and incorporate suggestions into the final design.

With clear direction and support, the City made its first attempt to secure a construction contractor in October of 2024 for construction during winter months. After no bids were received, the City interviewed contractors who cited concerns about starting such a large project during the winter months, when weather conditions could lead to costly delays, safety risks and material availability.

The City reissued the bid in January of 2025 and received multiple qualified submissions. All respondents emphasized the importance of spring scheduling for efficient work, safer site conditions, and on-time delivery. That insight shaped the construction approach and timeline now in place.

From early planning through today's implementation, the Downtown Streetscape Project has remained true to its guiding goals: preserve our history, enhance our infrastructure, and enrich the downtown experience for all.

Phasing & Construction Timeline

Streetcape Phases

To minimize disruption and maintain access to Downtown Branson during construction, Phase 4 of the Downtown Streetscape Project is being completed in multiple phases, with each focusing on a manageable segment of Main Street. The City of Branson has authorized the contractor the ability to work up to 24 hours a day for on-time project delivery and has given an incentive to contractors with a financial award to finish the project before the anticipated completion date.

Phase 1 & 1A (April - Early June)

Phase 1 location: Main St. between Veterans Blvd & Commercial St
Phase 1A location: Intersection of Main St. & Commercial St.

Phase 2 & 2A (Early June - October)

Phase 2 location: Main St. between Commercial St. & Sycamore St.
Phase 2A location: Intersection of Main St. & Sycamore St.

Each phase is designed to be completed before moving on to the next to ensure continued access to downtown businesses and parking options.

Is Downtown Branson Open for Business?

Yes—Downtown Branson is open throughout construction! While parts of Main Street may be temporarily closed to vehicles and every effort is being made to ensure businesses remain accessible.

Nearby streets like Atlantic Street, Pacific Street, and Commercial Street remain open and can be used to easily reach your favorite spots downtown.

Plenty of parking is available:

  • Awberry Lot at Atlantic Street & Commercial Street
  • City Parking Garage off Pacific Street & Commercial Street
  • On-street parking on nearby blocks outside the construction zone

We encourage everyone to keep supporting the heart of our community. Thank you for your patience as we invest in the future of Downtown Branson.
